From top to bottom, the Canada Revenue Agency is embracing innovation as the way of doing business. Innovation was formally added as a strategic priority to their vision statement in January 2015. They wish to encourage new ideas and move quickly with those that work.

Part of the federal family, CRA is following the lead of the Privy Council Clerk and the government-wide renewal exercise launched by Blueprint 2020.

Employees are encouraged to embrace innovation. Powerful measures have been put into place to help bring ideas forward allowing them to become nimble in response to forces emerging from an evolving world.

I had the chance to spend time recently with four executives at the Agency who have each been instrumental in leading the massive cultural and structural changes needed. Commissioner Andrew Treusch, Mireille Éthier, Karen Hall and Cary O’Brien share the strong belief that innovation is vital for the Agency’s success going forward.
